Heating engineers in Stevenage
Boiler help across Stevenage, from the Old Town to Bedwell, Shephall, Chells, Pin Green, St Nicholas, Symonds Green and Great Ashby.
What is housing like in Stevenage?
Stevenage was the first new town designated after the Second World War. Around the old market town on the High Street, now known as the Old Town, whole neighbourhoods were planned and built from the 1950s onwards, each with its own shops and schools. Bedwell, Shephall, Broadwater, Chells, Pin Green, St Nicholas and Symonds Green all grew this way, and Great Ashby followed much later.
Because the new town was built quickly and to repeated designs, many houses on the same street share the same layout. That can be useful: the boiler, airing cupboard and flue are often in the same place as next door's.
What heating questions come up in new-town houses?
Many of these homes started with a different heating system from the one they have now, and plenty have been updated more than once. A common change has been to swap an old boiler, cylinder and loft tanks for a combi, freeing the airing cupboard. Whether that suits your home depends on how many people live there and how they use hot water, which the engineer can talk through.
Terraced houses here often have a flue at the back, facing a path or a neighbour's garden. When a boiler is replaced, the new flue still has to meet distance rules from windows, doors and boundaries, so a like-for-like swap is not always possible.
Do you rent from the council or a housing association?
A large number of Stevenage homes are rented from the council or a housing association. If that is your landlord, report heating faults to them, as they arrange repairs and the yearly gas safety check. This service is for homeowners, private tenants' landlords and private landlords.
If you bought your home from the council, the boiler and heating are now your own responsibility, including servicing.
Do you let out a property in Stevenage?
Private landlords need a gas safety check on each rented home every year. Mention the number of homes, the dates on your current records and how access will work.
Who will contact me?
With your consent, one engineer on the Gas Safe Register who covers your Stevenage postcode, and nobody else. They will discuss the job and confirm costs with you before a single job is started. Our role is only to pass on the enquiry; the engineer may pay us for that, and it costs you nothing.
Who you will hear from
We pass your enquiry to one local heating engineer who covers your postcode. It is never sent to a list of companies.
We only pass enquiries to heating engineers whose registration we have checked on the Gas Safe Register. Ask to see their registration ID card when they arrive.
Herts Heating Repairs is an independent enquiry service, not a heating company. With your consent, we pass your enquiry to one local heating engineer who covers your area. The engineer may pay us a fee for each introduction.
